Q: How many days can a TagAlert monitor run?

A: The monitor was developed as a short-term, in-transit temperature indicator for shipments lasting up to 10 days in duration. Although the operating life of the monitor is two months, the Alarm/Alert feature will accommodate shipments of up to 10 days only. The shelf life is 12 months. For applications requiring extended monitoring, a long-life unit is available.

Q: Is the TagAlert monitor water resistant?

A: Yes. It has been tested and rated at a NEMA-6 level of water resistance. It is not waterproof.

Q: What are the threshold temperatures and times at which it alarms?

A: There is no predetermined threshold temperature. Each TagAlert monitor is customized to each customer’s unique product requirements. The threshold temperature at the time at which it alarms is determined by the customer when an order is placed.

Q: Can a TagAlert indicator be programmed with fewer than four alarms?

A: Yes. It can be programmed with one, two, three or four time/temperature alarms. The customer determines the number and type of alarms required for his or her particular application.

Q: How accurate is a TagAlert monitor?

A: It is accurate to +/-0.5C

Q: What is the response time of the TagAlert monitor?

A: It requires approximately 10 minutes to acclimate to its environment. To accommodate for this, the monitor can be programmed with a start delay of the customer’s choosing.

Q: Does the TagAlert give a time indication, as well as temperature?

A: Yes. Please read below to learn how the time of alarm is displayed.

Q: How do I read a TagAlert monitor?

A: If there is an “OK” (not blackened) visible in the window, the unit is running and taking temperatures, and an alarm has not been triggered. If the “OK” is within a black box and numbers are visible in the window, then an alarm has been triggered.

Press the Start button to determine which alarm triggered first (there are a maximum of four alarms that can trigger, depending on the unit’s programming). The alarm that triggered first will flash on the LCD for four seconds (e.g. if “2” flashes for four seconds, then Alarm 2 triggered first). The LCD will clear, and the next number that appears indicates the day of the trip during which the alarm was triggered. If more than one number flashes, the numbers should be added to determine the day on which the alarm was triggered (e.g. if a “2” and a “4” appear, then the alarm was triggered on the sixth day of the trip). After two seconds, the LCD will then flash numbers representing the three-hour window during which the alarm was triggered.

Q: Can a TagAlert monitor be programmed in Fahrenheit?

A: No. The alarm temperature values are generated in Celsius only. When placing an order for TagAlert monitors, you must provide any temperature values in Celsius. Click here for a Celsius-Fahrenheit conversion calculator to assist you.

Q: Can I reuse or reprogram a TagAlert monitor?

A: No. It was designed as a simple, convenient, cost-effective electronic monitor. It is programmed with a customer-specific profile during the manufacturing process and is not reprogrammable. It is a single-use, disposable monitor.

Q: Can I stop a TagAlert monitor once it has been started.

A: No. Once a monitor has been started, it will continually take temperature readings. Therefore, it is important that the monitor is read immediately upon shipment arrival.

Q: Can the TagAlert unit be used in dry ice applications?

A: No. The operating range of the monitor is -20°C to 70°C (-4°F to 158°F). Dry ice applications can potentially go well below -20°C, which would drain the unit’s battery and damage other internal components.

Q: How does Sensitech test its TagAlert monitors?

A: Each monitor has met and surpassed a variety of internal quality, accuracy and performance tests, as well as third-party, independent product testing and validation by TUV Pro Services. This extensive testing assures the overall accuracy and reliability of the TagAlert monitor design. The Sensitech TagAlert Validation Package is available for customer review, as well as the TUV Final Report. You may contact a Client Services Representative at 800-843-8367 for further information.
