Cold chain management essential, also within cell cultivation

Sassenheim, 27 February, 2006 – Sensitech is continuing to expand its activities within the Life Sciences industry and now also provides its cold chain management products to PharmaCell, a newly formed company focused on cell cultivation based out of Maastricht, the Netherlands with its own Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) production unit.

PharmaCell is a company, which grows cells for third parties, fulfilling the need for - for instance - human cells for product development, clinical testing or initial stages of commercialization. The organization can provide support to, or partner with R&D companies to bring new products from the lab to the clinic. As cell tissue or cells are extremely temperature-sensitive, PharmaCell decided to work with Sensitech for the cold chain monitoring of their assets.

For transports of muscle cell tissue between the Netherlands-based production facilities and the receiving hospitals in Europe, Asia and Africa, PharmaCell is using Sensitech’s TempTale® monitoring equipment to safeguard their assets and optimize their cold chain. Since the company operates according to the GMP regulations as laid down by the government, PharmaCell needs to be able to monitor, document and archive temperature information of their products.

“As we are dealing with unique cell tissue and not with a generic product that can be replaced, it is critical that we monitor the cells throughout our supply chain as part of our quality management system,” explains René Lardenoije, president and CEO of PharmaCell. “We simply cannot afford to lose the cells tissue due to temperature failures”.
